EXPRESSING INTENTION/PLAN
(WILL, BE GOING TO, WOULD LIKE, WOULD RATHER)
a. The Definition of Intention
Intention is something that you want to do. Usually, somebody something to do in the future.(future tense)
b. The Expression intention
Asking for future plans
- What is/are your plan/plans?
- What are you going to do?
- What will you do?
- What do you plan to do?
- What would you like to do?
Expressions Intention
- I am going to… - I plan to…
- I will… - I intend to…
- I’d like… - I am planning to..
- I would rather.. - I am thinking of…
.
c. Simple future tense
Simple future tense has two different forms in English: “will” and “be going to”. Both “will” and “be going to” refer to specific time in the future.

The use of will and be going to
1. “Be Going To” to express a plan.
The use of “be going to” to express something is a plan. It expresses the idea that a person intends to do something in the future. It doesn’t matter whether the plan is realistic or not.
Examples:
-He is going to spend his vacation in Kaliurang.
-We are going to play football in Bandung.
-I am going to do the task tonight.
-Fifi : When are we going to meet each other tonight?
-Indi: We are going to meet at 6 p.m.
2. “Will” to express a voluntary action or help.
“Will” often suggests that a speaker will do something voluntarily. A voluntary action is one the speaker offers to do for someone else. Often, we use “will” to respond to someone else’s complaint or request for help. We also use “will” when we request that someone help us or voluntareer to do something for us. Similarity we use “will not” or “won’t” when we refuse to voluntarily do something.
Examples:
-I will send you the information when I getit.
-I will cook some fish.
-I will not do your homework for you.
-I won’t do all the homework myself!
3. “Will” to express a promise
“Will” is usually used in promises.
Examples:
-I call you when I arrive.
-I promise I will not tell him about the surprise party.:
4. “Will” or “Be Going To” to express to prediction.
Both “will” and “be going to” can express the idea of general prediction about the future. Prediction are guesses about what might happen in the future.
Examples:
-The year 2222 will be a very interesting year.
-The year 2222 is going to be a very interesting year.
5. “Would like” to express something what you want.
You can use would like + infinitive ( Would like to + The simple form of the verb ) to talk about ambitions, hopes, and preferences
Examples:
-I would like to play futsal with my classmate.
-I would like to drink coffee in the café.
-Would you like to join with us to talk about film?
6. “Would rather” to express a plan with comparison.
To express a plan but there is a comparison with another statement.
Examples:
-I would rather stay at class than go to canteen.
-I would rather watch this movie tha listen the music..

Hi, my name is Anggraini Dewi Shinta, I’m a student in Pandawa Vocational School. As you know that in the next three days; we will have a long holiday. I have prepared a great plan with my lovely elder sister. Yeah, we would like to visit our grandmother in her village. We really love her so much. We haven’t visited her for more than 4 months, so we have missed her so much.
Okay, friends, let’s see my preparations. I’m going to prepare 4 pairs of t-shirt and skirt, some snacks, and also some medicines. By the way, my sister is going to call a tour agent and order 2 seats of travel to our trip. That’s about our planning. By the way, what is your planning if you will have a long holiday? Let’s tell us!!! .

Fabian : “Hello, Justin. What are you doing to do in this weekend?”
Justin : “Hello, Fabian. I am going to go to Kyai Langgeng Magelang with my family. How about you?”
Fabian : “Well, I still do not have anyplan for the weekend.
Justin : “Why don’t you go to your favourite place with your sister?”
Fabian : “That is good idea. But I have to help my father to plant some flower seeds in our garden.”
Justin : “I think gardening is also nice activity. You can enjoy it as a nice activityin the weekend. I t can be a good experience and entertain you too.”
Fabian : “You are right. Planting some flower seeds in the weekend is also a good thing for us. Thank for your suggestion.”
Justin :“Okay, I will give you some souvenirs from Magelang next.
Fabian : “Okay, great! See you Justin.
Justin : “All right, See you too.”
